Phytosanitary standard

What heat treatment is and why you need it.

The ISPM 15 is the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures that regulates wood packaging in international trade, including pallets. Its goal is to prevent pests in the wood from travelling from one country to another.

To comply, the wood undergoes heat treatment (HT): it is heated until the core of the wood reaches a minimum temperature of 56 °C for at least 30 continuous minutes. Each pallet is then marked with the official stamp showing the country, the supplier's registration and the treatment applied.

In Peru, SENASA (the National Agrarian Health Service) is the authority that oversees compliance with this standard. An untreated or unstamped pallet can hold up your cargo at the destination port.
